Ghanaian reggae/dancehall artiste Jupitar known privately as Michael
Okine Mint claims he’s hugely contributed to development of Dancehall
Music in Ghana.
He admitted that the likes of Root Eye, Samini and others did their best to make dancehall genre a force to reckon with.
“If you mention Dancehall in Ghana then you have to call Jupitar,
talking from the root of it. We brought it into the limelight and others
polished it. There were people like Root Eye doing dancehall but it
wasn’t mainstream so when I came with my first and second songs, it was
all over,” Jupitar told Kwame Bee on Di Wu Lane Mu on kasapa FM.
According to Jupitar, he is the only artiste in Ghana who does proper
dancehall music since according to him, he has held the fort than any
other artiste.
“The likes of Shatta Wale, Stonebwoy, Iwan and others refined it to make
it more commercial to the people so I think they also did a good job
but If you’re talking about proper or authentic dancehall in Ghana, then
you have to call Jupitar,” he added.
His love for music dates as far back as 15 years but decided to pursue
his music aspirations in 2010. He has over the years become a household
name and has gained respect and recognition amongst his peers.
He has collaborated with both local and foreign artists. Some of the
local artists include, Tinny, Trigmatic, Eazzy, Samini and Stnebwoy just
to mention a few.
His unique style and music dexterity has helped in unveiling his talent outside the shores of Ghana.
